Comparison Chart of the Best Coping Saws. A coping saw is basically a wood cutting instrument which is employed to cut complex outward patterns and internal cross cuts in woodworking and is usually used on the edge of a piece of timber to perform intricate curves in the wood or simply to cut long pieces of straight timber. It generally has a strong, narrow back blade connected to a U-shape framework with teeth. The blade is normally held flat to the surface by a tang and can be slowly and evenly manipulated for controlling the angle of the cut.
Coping saws are classified according to the type of teeth that are used on them. The various types include triangular grind, deep grind and self-adjusting. In the triangular grind, the teeth face towards the user are adjusted for cutting depth. In deep grind, the teeth face towards the user are adjusted by adjusting the adjustment nut which is present on one of the side of the blade.
